Sonali Arseculeratne, Yoshiko Kumekawa and Glenn Ryozo Kumekawa with materials from Japanese American Internment Resource Library on display

The Asian American Studies Institute has nationally recognized holdings on the Japanese American Internment and the Fred Ho collection.

Japanese American Internment Resource Library

The Japanese American Internment Resource Library (JARL) was initiated through a federal grant from the Civil Liberties Public Education Fund. Located on the 4th floor of Beach Hall, the JARL is maintained entirely through monetary and in-kind contributions from supporters of the Asian American Studies Institute.

The growth in this area of study is evident in the wide array of materials available from videos, books and teaching aids, to oral histories, CD-ROM, slides and other visual documentation.

The Fred Ho Special Collection

The Fred Ho Collection on Asian American Politics and Culture is housed in the Special Collections of the Thomas J. Dodd Research Center. The Collection contains articles, poetry, music, critical reviews, speeches, and commentaries written and compiled by Fred Ho. To encourage research use of the Collection, the Asian American Studies Institute sponsors the Fred Ho Fellowship for faculty research and independent scholars, and the Fred Ho Prize in Asian American History and Culture, awarded biennially, for UConn students.
